Have you ever seen a plate or platter (really any type of dish) at the thrift store you loved only to look closer and see it covered with dark gray marks and stains? You know, the one that looks like a toddler took a pencil to it. Check out these that I found for a bargain at our local antique mall. Below I show you the best product I have found to help revive thrifted plates, platters and dishes.

Majority of the gray marks are made from metal flatware, knives or serve ware. In my experience dishes with these marks and even stains are absolutely salvageable. Bar Keepers Friend is the secret to removing those gray marks and stains.

Simply make a paste with Bar Keepers powder and water then use a cloth to scrub away the marks or stains. In my experience, the thicker the paste, the easier it is to scrub the marks away. If the mixture is too watery it takes more elbow grease.

I like to let the paste sit on the surface for a minute or two before rinsing. It helps fade stubborn stains like rust. Rinse your dishes thoroughly after scrubbing to reveal a fresh clean surface. Who knew a simple scrub is all it takes to revive thrifted platters?

Bar Keepers Friend is the easiest way to clean gray marks and stains off of dishes. In my opinion it is a thrifters best friend!! It has other uses as well and is an essential in my cleaning cabinet. Have you ever tried it? If so, what is your favorite use for it?
